The Giro Savant MIPS Road Bike Helmet offers authentic race-inspired style and performance with a plush, comfortable fit that’s ready to go the distance. It uses the in-mould construction process, in which the polystyrene protective shell is bonded to the plastic outer during the production process, leading to a tight bond between the two.

You may think safety and style do not go hand in hand, well with the Giro Savant helmet you may think again. Using Giro's In-Mold technology, the Savant’s polycarbonate outer shell is bonded directly to the EPS foam, saving weight and adding durability. With 2 years of development behind it the Roc-Loc 5 - as found on Giro's top-of-the line Aeon helmet - is now available for the performance cyclist in the form of the Giro Savant.It is constructed of EPS and polycarbonate like every other helmet we tested, and it provides the same level of protection at a fraction of the cost of more expensive models. All of the components - including straps, buckles, and tensioning system - worked flawlessly during testing. The Savant has 25 decent sized vents, with internal channels connecting forward facing intakes to decent sized exhaust vents, guiding air over the head. Although the Savant has plenty of vents, they’re a bit smaller than on some lids, and the front-facing vented area is lower.

It gives you a micro-dial to adjust the horizontal retention system, a three position bracket to modify vertical fit (you can do this with the helmet on your head), and the usual buckles on the straps to keep them where you want them. This process enables better ventilation design, with 24 vents and interior channelling for promoted breathability so you can be assured of remaining cool when throwing down your full power. Still, I figured 10 years was long enough, especially considering it was the cheapest helmet I could find at the time.

There’s quite a broad section of padding around the brow and a couple of small pads over the crown of the head. When the dial is tensioned it pushes the front of the head into the EPS, which is fine if your head is shaped appropriately, but some of our testers had a hard time getting a snug fit without pressure points.
